Battle of Corn Row

Lamashan 13, 4708 – We rode out to the sanitarium to talk to Grayst Sevila. They would not let us see Grayst until we show them we where deputized by the sheriff to talk to him. They let us in to talk to him. He just babbled about the misgivings, his lordship and they also eat the dogs. It was not until Lyk spoke when we said something about his lordship made him memorize something he beat his head until all of a sudden he remember and attacked Lyk. We were able to quickly subdue him. We had them put him in irons because he torn through the straight jacket to get at Lyk. He would tell us nothing more and he is dieing of some illness not sure what it is. But every time Lyk spoke to him we would say his lordship made him memorize something and he would beat his head then try to attack Lyk again. We left with Lyk trying to remember something about misgivings because he had heard that word when he was growing up.

We went back to the Sheriff and reported what we had found. Sherriff Belor told us that Grayst was mad and we would not get anything out of him. But we did, who ever is doing these murders is setting up Lyk to take a fall, be killed or join his cause. By why the murders, is still the question of the day. What does misgivings means? Questions we still need answer, too.

Andrian started talking to the people in Sandpoint if they knew what or where the misgiving is. As he was asking farm Grump Hambley came stumbling down the road. We appeared to be drunk and he was raving about scarecrows and they even eat the dogs. We found out that he lived next to the misgiving. He seemed to be like Grayst but we could smell the liquor on him. He also said something about the scarecrows attacking his house. Sheriff Belor thought he was insane but could be just drunk. He took him to the jail for him to sober up. We set off to find out what happen to his family and see what going on at the misgiving. Sheriff Belor offered us a couple of guards to go with us but Andrian was quick to speak up that we would not need them. So, off we went to check out another part of the puzzle.

As we approached the farmer house, the fields around his house had tall corn all around and scarecrows in the fields. As we came close to one scarecrow Andrian shot it with a bolt and I told him we should not do that we do not know what they are. The second scarecrow we came to we check out and it attacked us. The scarecrow was a ghoul and we where able to dispatch it quickly with no problems. Andrian noticed the color and said Farmer Grump and Grayst had that same color. We decide that Grump and Grayst are becoming ghouls so we sent Riley and Carufinwe back to warn the sheriff.

We head toward the house and another scarecrow was moving and before I could say anything Andrian fired another bolt into the scarecrow and it stopped moving. That one died to fast when we went to the scarecrow and took it down we found out it was a child made to look like a scarecrow. It looked like she was going to become a ghoul, too. But we have to check first which means others will be ghouls but other could be children.

We moved on to the house cutting through the corn fields. We arrived at the farm house and it was quiet. We entered through the front door being attacked by three ghouls. Lyk was in the front and was able to defend himself well. The other ghouls ran from us. Lyk was able to kill the ghoul just when we noticed the others did not run from us they where running to get behind us. A fight for our lives took place it was not looking good for any of us. Lyk was able to kill one but we each still had one attacking each of us. I was able to heal both Andrian and Lyk they where getting hit more than me. Torag was protecting me from these undead creatures. Just when the tide was not going our way Carufinwe came back and entered the battle. With his help, we killed one ghoul quickly to turn the odds back in our favor. We were then able to dispatch the other two ghouls by ganging up on them. Lyk, Andrian and my self took scratches from the ghouls. I cleaned our wounds as best as I could. Once we finish with the misgivings we need to go to the priest for cleaning so we do not get this disease.

We thank Carufinwe for coming back to our aid. But, why did you return. Carufinwe told us that the sheriff still sent two guards to check up on us. They meet them going back to Sandpoint. Riley told Carufinwe to return to us as he will report to the sheriff with the two guards about Grump conditions. Then Carufinwe came back to join us. Carufinwe told us it sure looked like we needed his help.

We search the house and barn and found no one or any more ghouls. We did find a large pile of bones mostly dogs in the barn. This looked like the place where the ghouls eat. There was also a large stone carving in the back of the barn. It looks like the barn was built around the carving. Andrian was thinking it was old but to me it does not look to have been weather enough for that length of time.

Andrian wanted to return to Sandpoint because we had a hard fought battle at the farm house and we need to get Riley. Lyk and I said we need to check out the corn fields. If the corn fields still have ghouls hanging from them we can not let them get down and kill more innocent people. After a short discussion it was decided to check out the scarecrows. We found a long pole with a hook to cut the rope with. Lyk and I would face the scarecrow and Andrian would cut it down from behind with Carufinwe attacking from the side. We had a plan to fight the ghouls so we headed into the corn fields.

We started with the single scarecrows first. They went well for us and we were able to quickly kill those ghouls. We found an older lady which we took back to the farm house. Lyk and I were able to clean her wounds and we lock her in one of the bedrooms in the farm house. The next was a group of three we tried to attack one at a time and that seemed to work but the first ghoul was a tuff one and we could not take care of that one. We then had two on us for a while. We were able to kill one and look to be taking the next one down when Carufinwe shot at the one still hanging on the pole. Once we finished the second ghoul and check out the one hanging it turn out to be a child. I once again explained we need to find out what beneath the scarecrow before attacking them. We took the bodies out to the road to pick up later.

The battle with the ghouls seemed to be getting harder. The group of ghouls where taking their toll on us we where taking damage from them but we did not see the black stuff in the finger nails that seem to have the disease to make us ghouls. We found a few more people on the poles and Lyk and I were able to clean their wounds. The day was getting late and we where getting tried but we felt we needed to clear out the whole corn field. We came close a few times to be over whelm by the ghouls but Torag was with us and we where able to clear out all the ghouls in the corn field. Near the end of all the battle Andrian ask me why I did not use my power to combat undead on the scarecrows before they attacked us. I was thinking it would be better to use it when we were surrounded. But, the last group was spread out and it identified the ones not ghouls easier. Why did I not think of doing this tactic earlier. By the end of the day we were able to save six people in all from the poles. Between Lyk and myself we seemed to helped all but one. They still look sick and I’m hoping we can get them to Sandpoint in time to be cured by the priest.

We took everyone up to the farm house first. Then went and pick up all the dead bodies from the corn field and placed them in the barn to be taken care of later. We found a wagon to bring the sick back to Sandpoint for healing. It was late when we set out for Sandpoint. Lyk doing most of the fighting and carrying was let to rest first. Half way to Sandpoint one of the people we saved turned into a ghoul on us and attack. It killed one of the sick before Lyk and the rest of us where able to kill it. Lyk and I check the others and they looked okay. We still had to hurry. We got into Sandpoint and took the sick to the priest and he was able to heal them and us. I believe we have won a small battle.

Murder at the Saw Mill

Lamashan 12, 4708 (10/31/2008) – It was early in the morning when Lyk drag me out of bed. He told me to come with him, his uncle wanted to tell us something before it became known. Lyk had gotten all of us up, Carufinwe, Riley and Andrian, to see his uncle. Before the Sheriff started he told us to gather around he wanted to speak low so no one could hear us. I told him I could do a ritual that would keep people from eavesdropping. So I cast my ritual to silence the room. He then told us about the murder at the saw mill. Where a young girl named Katerine Vinder was cut in half by the saw and Banny Harker was nail to the wall with his lower jaw bone removed. But, the bad part was a note to Lyk from his Lordship. This did not look good for Lyk and almost showed that Lyk was involved. The Sheriff was sure he was not but wanted us to go up to the saw mill to check it out. The Sheriff deputized us so we could get into the saw mill.

The scene was bad and both where dead. Andrian and Lyk where amazing to me. They figured out a lot. It looked like the girl back into the running saw either to get away from the attacker or she stumble getting away from the attacker. Because how the body landed it was a fall not thrown into and Banny did not have her blood on him and no foot prints in the blood when she went into the blade. It was a strong attacker to nail him to the hall and the mark of the ruin with the greed symbol pointing up carved on his chest was not pretty. They also found other tracks that looked like a claw and human foot outside. But we lost it when we got to the river. Getting as much information at the saw mill we went back to the sheriff.

We wanted to talk to Ibor Thorn, Banny partner at the saw mill. The Sheriff had him brought up to his room where we could talk to him without worrying about eavesdroppers. Ibor told us about Banny double book keeping and who he was cheating. This all pointed to the Grief rune but why. Andrian and Riley wanted to talk to the person we gave the books to check out and knew a lot about the runes. He did tell us about the rune but why the murders is still the question.

Later after we told Sheriff Belor what we found out he told us about the second murders earlier this week. The only survivor was Grayst Sevila a thug. They also had the same rune on their chest and the lower jaw bone removed. Andrian said that it seems that the lower jaw is a collector item for like a trophy item to the attacker. Grayst Sevila is still alive but he is mad and you can not get anything from him. But, that was our only clue left. So, tomorrow we will travel to the sanitarium to visit Grayst.

Clean up of the Stables (downtime)

Lamashan 1, 4708 – Took the day off to go to the Temple for prayer. I was in the Temple all day praying and talking to the folks that came in. They all where nice to me and listen to what I had to say about Torag but no one accepted him. I talk with the priest in the temple but he gave me no more information about Nualla. The priest did have a ritual I may purchase but I do not have the amount he would like for a donation.

Lamashan 2, 4708 – I went to the Temple for prayer in the morning. Then went to the stables to see how it was run. I went over the books and they look a mess to me. Decided to just clean up Daviren living quarters and I gave the few nice cloths he had to the ones taking care of the stable for us.

Lamashan 3, 4708 – I went to the Temple for prayer in the morning. Finished up the major cleaning and gave the food he had to the ones taking care of stable for us. There was not much but they where glad to take it and they even took some I was going to throw out for their pigs. The living quarters are now cleaned up. Tomorrow I will go through the papers.

Lamashan 4, 4708 – I went to the Temple for prayer in the morning. Started going through the paper and burning which I could not read or thought was nothing. The helper told me what is needed and where we get supplies. But, before I burned them I did I ask my uncle and we gave me some guide lines to follow. I also decided to not worry about old debts even if there where any I could not decide if he even had any.

Lamashan 5-8, 4708 – I did the same thing for four days go to the Temple for prayer. Then to the stables to figure out the paper works. I believe I have the books all set with one keeping track of who using the stables and for how long and what they paid. Another book for inventory to keep track of who supplies us, how much they cost and when we used them up. The final book to keep track of all daily transactions, like fee to use stable, cost for supplies and to pay the help. What little money I found I gave it to the help for back wages. The stables are looking pretty good if I say so myself.

Lamashan 9-11, 4708 – I did the same thing for three days go to the Temple for prayer and talk to the town folk, help my uncle for a few hours, then check out the stables and see if the books are being kept up.

The Sealing of the Evil Summoning Well (downtime)

Rovagug 14, 4708 – I went to the mayor and ask permission to go back into the glass factory to see if I can destroy that evil alter. She gave me permission and I started to plan by talk to my uncle about getting a good stone mason to seal it up. He did not know of one but we could do a wooden cover that would be hard to remove. I will have to think about that.

Rovagug 15, 4708 – I started working on removing the liquid myself. I worked on it all day by dipping a bucket into the pool and putting it in another bucket with a lid to carry it to the sea. I did that, to not spill that evil liquid or get any on me. I then poured it into the sea to dispose of it. Worked over 12 hrs on this project.

Rovagug 16, 4708 – Still working on removing the liquid but does not look like I’m making any head way. Will bring a stick to measure if I’m making progress or not.

Rovagug 17, 4708 – I used a stick to mark the liquid line to the top to see if I’m making any headway this day. I worked all day and at the end the liquid was still at the same level it must have another source filling the pool. This plan is not working out I have to talk to my uncle again about his plan.

Rovagug 18, 4708 – I talk to my uncle and he says he can build a heavy lid to go over the top of the pool. I took him to the spot and he measured it all and said this will be easy. I watch him draw out his plan and the steps on what he needs to carry them out.

Rovagug 19-30 – Working with my uncle with me just doing the grunt work he built a lid for the pool out of heavy timbers. He bolted into the floor to make it even harder to remove. He is a master at working with wood. I’m very proud at the work he was done. While we where making the lid the mayor was overseeing the work in sealing up the tunnel to the outside. I also took some time but could not figure out just where one stairs goes up too. Not sure where in town or maybe another level above. But, the cave in was just to dangerous to work with. So, I will never know where it does lead, too.
