Entering ScarWall

Gozran 12th, 4709 – We noticed an orc fortress near Scarwall and we tried to sneak past it but was spotted. A group of about fifty orcs charged out to attack us. Andrian was quick to react and threw one of his explosive bottles into the middle of the group taking out a quarter of them. I ask Torag to protect us as the Legend That Walks and Krojun attack the front of the orcs. Rizzle cast a spell taking out about another quarter of them with Carufinwe taking out a couple of orcs with his bow. I was a little surprise to see that they did not run at that point. The next few seconds the rest of them laid dead. Shadowcourt and Laori along with Trinia did not attack as they saw we had it all under control. We then passed by the fortress with no other problem. A few hours later we arrived at Scarwall. We noticed it was in the middle of a lake on an island with about a 400 feet of causeway connect it with the land. An old dilapidated battlement on the shore use to guard this causeway. Now over half of it was in ruin. Andrian noticed moment in the battlement and we stop to let him take a look. He found out, that four large battle worn Orc guarded the causeway. It looked more like they watch Scarwall then who would be approaching Scarwall. So, we decided to talk to the Orc. At first the Orc did not want us to go to Scarwall saying we were not allowed. After we told him we are here to destroy the undead to retrieve an item. After the orc was beaten by the others or his leader let us pass. The Legend That Walks and Krojun dismounted and left their phantom steeds before crossing onto the causeway. The rest of us stayed mounted with Andrian next in line as soon as he cross the shoreline his phantom steed attack him. Instead of the usual hit to dismiss the steed it took Andrian a few attacks to dismiss his steed. At this the rest of us but Rizzle dismissed our steed. Rizzle walk behind his steed ready to attack it if it attacked him which it did. Rizzle was kicked by the steed and with our help was able to dismiss his steed, too. We cross the causeway with the Orc watching from the shore line. When Legend That Walks reached the castle door he looked up and just as he did a portcullis dropped trapping him alone inside the castle gate house. Then the main door swung open with a large group of skeletons attacking the trapped Legend That Walks. I heard a faint laughing in the back from the Orc watching from the causeway blocking our retreat. Krojun attempted to lift the heavy portcullis to free the Legend That Walks but could not. Andrian leapt forward and somehow managed to get the portcullis up freeing Legend That Walks and embarrassing Krojun. We had to fee the area to avoid the arrows from above. Krojun served as rearguard and took many arrows in the arm and shoulder protecting our retreat. For whatever reason I will never know why Carufinwe decided to abandon the causeway by jumping into the water below. We had the skeletons coming at us from the gate and the orcs blocking our retreat. I know it did not look good but we needed to stay together as a group. The only value in Carufinwe death was it was not safe to jump in the water. As a large grey type water worm came out of the murky water to pull Carufinwe under the surface. Some how, Carufinwe escaped the worm but was swimming in the wrong direction back to the Scarwall shores. He came under fire from the Skeletons and was just about to make it to the shore when the worm came up from underneath him biting him in half. The worm quickly swallowed both pieces of poor Carufinwe before disappearing back in the murky water. As the battle worn on with the orcs stopping us from leaving and the skeltons arrow fire from above. The Shadowcount Sial and I was busy using our healing powers to keep everyone still alive. Andrian noticed that the orcs just wanted to kill us by surrounding us. He noticed the orcs tenacity for battle madness unknown to them. I believe it was the same magic that made the phatom steed turn on us. This berserker state made it easier for us to knock the orcs off the causeway to the murky water below and to deal with the great grey water worm below. Once the skeleton horde seem to notice the Orcs have lost their battle with us the Skelton moved in on us again. They began to fire their arrows into our group again. Rizzle then cast a great wall of fire blocking the skeleton advance on us giving us the time we needed to finish the orcs and fled to the mainland gate castle. For a time the skeletons continued to advance into the wall of flames being consumed by it before they were ordered to break off the attack. After the skeleton retreated, Shadowcount Sial and Laori Vaus searched the downed orcs for signs of life. They did manage to find one orc that would survive for questioning. They brought the orc back to us as a captive. As we looked at him he looked a little more human than the other orcs.

Laori Vaus and Shadowcount Sial argue over who is best suited to question the orc prisoner. While they argued I went over and healed the Orc and then the Legend That Walks ended the debate by cutting the rope that held the orc. The orc was glad to be free and told us he is a three-quarter Orc. His mother was a full Orc and his father was a half orc but we still look’s a little human. Because of this he was not treated well by the other orc’s. His name is Daw it is hard to understand him. He does not know much of Scarwall except that once in every few months a few skeletons attack the gate house. But, since he was been on duty no one but us tried to enter. The Legion That Walks ended all debate by telling the priests of Zon-Kuthon that the orc will be sleeping in his tent. I was a little surprise that they accepted this with out any more argument. Sial made a rude comment that he will pretend not to hear the squeals of pain coming form Legend’s tent. I believe the priest will be surprise that The Legend That Walks will do nothing to the Orc but talk to him. At the moment it looks like we have another member to our group we will have to watch that he does not turn on us when we are weak.

Gozran 13th, 4709 – We slept most of the morning without any problems in the gatehouse. When we were having breakfast we talk how to stop the portcullises from dropping on us. I suggested we get a couple of rocks about a couple of feet long that we would hold while the portcullises drop stopping it from coming all the way down. We found a couple of rocks for this purpose. It was early afternoon when we started to go back in with our rocks. But this time the portcullises did not fall. We left the rocks there just in case it did come down so we would have a few inches to help us lift it up. We decide to move quickly thru the gate house when The Legion That Walks stopped and I was behind Krojun who did not stop but I did. The Legion That Walks noticed a second portcullis as I noticed the large pile of bones which reminded me of the same kind of bone monster we fought in Korvosa. Just as I spoke for Krojun to return the bones started to form a bone amalgam of an entire military unit. This bone pile attack and grab Krojun. The Legion That Walk went up to help Krojun and to attack the bone pile. The rest of us went up to attack the bone pile, too. The battle was a hard fought battle with the bone pile relentlessly trying to kill Krojun. We were able to keep him a live and he was able to defend off a few attacks. Rizzle was able to cast a wall of fire in the middle of the bone pile which probably did most of the damage to it. But both The Legion That Walks and Krojun were able to get in some big time hits with the rest of us getting our attacks in. The pile could not move so it was a standing battle. Half way thru the battle the bone pile caused the bones pieces on the floor to fly with speed into the pile causing us all damage as they passed by us. Then when we destroyed the bone pile it exploded again causing us more damage again. We rested up and healed each other before we moved on.

We entered the first door on our right which was decorated with a rotting tapestries and a skeleton knight in the back of the room. Andrian and I moved up to look at the skeleton. As soon as we did the skeleton animated and cursed Andrian calling other skeleton for protection. As Andrian and I were attacked by the knight the rest of the party were attacked by other skeletons. Andrian was order by the spirit of Mandravius to attack Laori who came up behind us to assist. Andrian was able to quickly shake off the effect of the curse and continue his attack on the skeleton. The party quickly took care of the skeleton out side the room and we where able to quickly destroy the skeleton who seemed to be a cursed spirit that killed Kazavon. These attacks are doing their job in weakening us. Rizzle noticed that the armor was magical and we took this with us. I recalled my chest and put the armor in sending it back to my parents to remove and keep for us.
